Do you recognize signs associated with lipedema?

The questions come from a questionnaire created by Brazilian researchers (Amato et al., Jornal Vascular Brasileiro, 2020) and from features described in the Brazilian Lipedema Consensus. Choose the answer that sounds most like what you live with and, at the end, get a summary to take to your appointment.

01Do you feel something is different about your legs, but you're not quite sure what?
02Is the lower part of your body larger than the upper part?
03When you try to lose weight, do your thighs, legs, hips or arms get smaller?
04During puberty, did you gain weight mainly in your thighs, legs, hips, buttocks or arms?
05During pregnancy or breastfeeding, or soon after, did your thighs, legs, hips, buttocks or arms change?
06During menopause, did your thighs, legs, hips, buttocks or arms change?
07Do your legs hurt?
08Do your legs swell?
09Do bruises show up easily on your legs or arms?
10Does the increase in volume stop at the ankle or wrist, leaving your feet and hands out of it?

Sometimes it looks like a “step” just above the ankle or wrist.

11Do other women in your family have the same body shape or similar symptoms?

Unanswered questions are not included in the summary.

Questions 1 to 9 were adapted, in simpler language, from the lipedema screening questionnaire created by Brazilian researchers (Amato et al., 2020). Questions 10 and 11 come from features described in the Brazilian Lipedema Consensus, the NHS and the Lipedema Foundation. The original study uses a score to estimate the chance of lipedema. That score is not used here: the summary shows what you reported, without calculating any risk.
